2020 Preparation Already

Thursday 7 November

We are already into planning mode for next year, more projects are on the cards and that means that more volunteers will be needed to get all the work done. While the planning review was being carried out, the rest of the gang headed out to Stanton to finish off clearing around the gully drains on the run that stretches from Culvert 11A north past the high point at the Aqueduct up to Culvert 6A, a distance of 1,860m. Part is channel, most is piped, with the south end in short ditches. Alastair was away with the examining engineers again looking at Bridge 40 at Bishops Cleeve. Plus we had a series of deliveries for the Culvert 11B-11A pipe run.

The big project for next year should be at Gretton encompassing works on Culvert 24A, 24B, 24C and 25A. This is going into the design stage now after a site meeting today with Peter, the Railway's Head of Civil Engineering.

Up at Stanton, the brushcutters were out uncovering the chambers at the south end of the run. After lunch the team moved to the north end to finish the run.

The works kept getting interrupted to handle the deliveries for the new pipeline joining the up side ends of Culvert 11A and 11B and the 11B down side enhancements.

The last lot to arrive was the concrete chamber rings, strangely they came in 4 pallets of 10, 2 of 9 and 1 of 2.

Alastair is writing up a Civil Engineering blog covering the inspections and the start of works on Culvert 21A. It should be published in the next few days.

The cooler weather has started to come in along with the shorter days, the sun was setting over the Cotswolds at home time.
