Delivery day

Thursday 4 July

A bit of a hectic start today, deliveries coming in thick and fast. Only 3 of us in as the holiday season is upon us. The sun shone and the ground is drying up, what more can we ask for. On the work front, Michael finished off the headers on the down side north wall, Dave cleaned yet more bricks, Stuart ran about like a headless chicken 😕

The early deliveries were stone for the gabions and scalpings for the roadway under the bridge.

Next in were new tools and a mystery parcel...

More supplies

Last one today was a pallet of new imperial blue engineering bricks.

Michael had to mix his own mortar today and then make sure the mixer was left spotless.

The contents of the mystery parcel are starting to appear around the site. There may be a competition later to see who can spot the most changes around the site.

You have been warned!

It would help us to remove the taper brick invert on the down side channel if the water wasn't flowing over it. Sand bags were tried in the 600mm pipe, this was partly successful, only problem was the flow soon started to run over the top. We'll bring a pump on Saturday to bypass the working area.

Back on up side, more bricks have been removed from the north wall. The issue again here was the amount of silt in the joints where roots had sprung the bricks apart.

Back at Winchcombe, the team in Carriage & Wagon were putting the finishing touches to the grille for the inlet of Culvert 7A. They have made such a good job of it we may have to commission a couple more 😉

  3. PS: I'm sure it's OK for the moment, though. And very good to see all the progress you all have made with all the works there!
