Back to sunny Stanton to catch the last of the summer, except most of the day was spent under the bridge. Roger carried on with his pointing challenge while the concrete was flying everywhere else. First off the concrete fillet was added to the inlet channel, then the gully drain was sunk in and the pipe and drain concreted place.
The concrete fillet was added along the join for the base and the wall footings on the inlet channel mainly to seal the joint and direct the water flow.

The inlet pipe was sandbagged and the water pumped around the channel while the concrete was laid, accelerant was added to speed up the setting process.
Pointing is one of those jobs that can be never ending, as soon as one bit is done another is found that could probably be done, and so it goes on. This is a fill in job while we are here as the Railway hasn't a structures maintenance team at present.

The gully drain needed a bit more adjustment to the trench for the outlet pipe, then the pit for the silt trap need to be baled out before the components could be fitted.

The pipe run needs some scalpings added to bring the road surface back up to level, then it's wait for the rain to see if it works.
Before leaving the pump had to be removed and flow established on the inlet channel, this tests if the accelerant has worked.

Another sign that the project is wrapping up, when a barrow-load of concrete comes down, a load of left over material goes back up for disposal.

ReplyDeleteAnd so ends another chapter of the ongoing work to keep the line dry and stable. It has been a great story and some amazing work has had to be done here. Great work everyone! We have put in a Quote for some minor drainage work to be done by the team on the HS2 line, should be cheaper than the other bids but we did insist that the biscuits are custard creams and tea to be readily available!
