Diversions abound

Week Ending 3 October

Nights are drawing in fast now, the summer has left us for another year. It's been another bitty week, Dave and Nigel went up to Stanton on Monday to break up the old palisade fence that was dumped after the gateway repair then they nipped down to Bridge 11 to get the vegetation back under control.

Pictures from Dave.

That was hard work
More for the scrap skip

The farm track under the Bridge 11 needs to be fenced off, hence the need to clear the ends of the wing walls and the ditches

Dave left the Michaelmas Daisy clump as they add to the bio-diversity of that corner. It could be the start of a flower garden.

It's the first time the gang has been out when trains are running, P&O and Foremarke Hall were doing the honours today.

Thursday was inspection day, Andrew and Martin went down from Greet Tunnel to Gotherington to check the jobs to do list and record any new jobs need doing. Milepost replacement is on the list, it's one of those jobs that keeps getting gazumped by more important things.

We have neighbours who think the railway is a storage compound...

The mileposts will eventually all be the GWR wooden tops, black numerals on a white background

The weather closed in early for the weekend, so the Friday gang stayed at home. There's no point in getting wet if you don't have to 😉

  1. Thanks for the update on the activities from the drainage gang - perhaps you need a new title given the scope of work you undertake.
Looks like an opportunity for some storage charges there!

  2. "Storage" charges are worth considering, it at least establishes that the items concerned are on GWT land with legal permission, and hopefully maintains goodwill.

  3. We are with Powli on this with the amount of debris being dumped over the fence, it's obvious where it it has come from, send them an invoice for £500 for storage or rubbish removal if not removed within 14 days, they will soon get the message!
Well done the team, another great report and pictures.
